Westfield Road – Tockwith

Katie and James approached us to build a new side and rear extension at their home on Westfield Road. This project was particularly interesting because the foundations and sub‑floor had already been installed by the previous owners, meaning we had to assess, adapt, and integrate the existing work into a completely new design that suited Katie and James’ requirements.

Overcoming the Main Challenge

The biggest challenge on this build was connecting the new first floor to the existing house. The original architectural plans proposed a corridor running through an existing bedroom, but Katie was understandably not keen on losing that space.

We worked closely with her to redesign the layout, ensuring the connection was structurally sound while also creating the best possible use of space. The final solution preserved the existing bedroom, improved the flow between old and new areas, and delivered a much more practical and attractive first‑floor layout.

Result

The completed extension blends seamlessly with the original house, providing Katie and James with valuable new living space on both floors. By adapting the inherited foundations and rethinking the first‑floor connection, we delivered a solution that met their needs without compromise.
